Connecticut Nonprofits Can Now Apply for Up to $50,000 in Security Funding: Here's What to Know

Governor Lamont just released $5 million in grant funding for Connecticut nonprofits to upgrade their physical security. If your organization qualifies, applications open in July, and the right technology partner can help you make every dollar count.

Security shouldn't be a luxury reserved for organizations with deep pockets. But for Connecticut nonprofits, houses of worship, social service agencies, community organizations, the reality is that meaningful security infrastructure often falls outside the reach of already-stretched budgets.

That's exactly what Governor Ned Lamont's Connecticut Nonprofit Security Grant Program is designed to address.

Now in its fourth round, the program is releasing another $5 million in state funding to help eligible 501(c)(3) organizations make serious, lasting security improvements to their facilities. Eligible nonprofits can receive up to $50,000 per site. Applications open in July, administered through the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection's Division of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (DESPP).

If your organization has been putting off a security upgrade because the budget just wasn't there, this may be the window you've been waiting for.

Connecticut Nonprofit Security Grant Eligibility: Who Qualifies

The program supports nonprofits that face heightened risk of being the targets of hate crimes, terrorist attacks, or other violent acts. Governor Lamont specifically highlighted faith-based organizations and houses of worship as key beneficiaries.

To qualify, your organization must:

  • Hold 501(c)(3) status
  • Own the building at the time of application and through project completion
  • Demonstrate need for security infrastructure improvements

Public schools are not eligible under this program (there's a separate School Security Grant Program for that). But the range of nonprofits who do qualify is broad: synagogues, mosques, churches, community centers, social service organizations, and more.

Approved Security Upgrades: What the Grant Funding Covers

This isn't operational funding. It's for physical security infrastructure, which is exactly where many nonprofits are most vulnerable. Grant dollars can be used for:

  • Ballistic glass
  • Surveillance cameras
  • Solid core doors
  • Double door access
  • Computer-controlled electronic locks
  • Access Control, scan card systems
  • Entry door buzzer systems
  • Penetration-resistant vestibules
  • Panic alarms
  • Metal detectors
  • Real-time interoperable communications and multimedia sharing infrastructure

That last item is worth noting. The inclusion of real-time communications and multimedia sharing infrastructure signals something important: security today isn't just about locks and cameras. It's about how fast your people can communicate, alert authorities, and coordinate a response when something goes wrong.

Nonprofit Security Technology: Solutions That Qualify for Grant Funding

Modern security systems are a far cry from the old VCR-in-the-basement setup. Today's video surveillance, access control, and communications technology work together as a unified system, one that doesn't just record incidents after the fact but actively helps prevent them.

CCi Voice works with nonprofits, schools, and municipalities across Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey to design and deploy exactly this kind of integrated security and communications infrastructure. Here's what that looks like in practice.

Video Surveillance with AI Analytics

High-definition cameras with remote monitoring access from desktop or smartphone, motion-triggered playback, and multi-location visibility. What sets today's systems apart is AI-powered analytics that go beyond passive recording. Modern surveillance can automatically detect loitering, flag unusual crowd behavior, identify unattended objects, and alert staff to potential threats in real time, before an incident escalates. Instead of reviewing hours of footage after the fact, your team gets actionable alerts while there's still time to act.

Access Control Systems for Nonprofits

From single-door setups to enterprise-level multi-site solutions, CCi Voice designs and installs access control systems that give your organization real control over who enters your facility and when. Capabilities include scan card and key fob entry, computer-controlled electronic locks, and mobile credentials that let staff use their smartphones as their access device.

Beyond basic entry management, today's access control systems can detect tailgating, flagging situations where two people attempt to enter on a single credential swipe. Temporary access can be programmed quickly for volunteers, contractors, or guests and revoked just as easily when their time on-site is complete. We handle design, installation, and ongoing monitoring and maintenance.

Door Phones Integrated with Access Control

Access control works best when paired with a door phone or video intercom at your entry points. This combination lets staff verify who's at the door before granting access, communicate directly with visitors, and remotely unlock the door, all without leaving their desk or compromising security. For organizations that can't staff a front desk at all times, this integration closes a significant gap.

Intrusion Detection

Advanced motion detection with AI analytics that differentiates real threats from false alarms, with immediate alerts no matter where you are. These systems can integrate directly with your video surveillance and access control, creating a coordinated response rather than a series of disconnected alerts.

VoIP and Emergency Communications

CCi Voice's hosted VoIP platform is fully integrated addressing both Kari's Law and Ray Baum's Act, the federal standards for multi-line telephone emergency dialing. When 911 is dialed at your facility, administrators and key personnel are automatically notified. For a nonprofit with limited on-site staff, that automatic loop-in can make a real difference in response time.

Networking Infrastructure

Security systems are only as strong as the network they run on. CCi Voice can assess and upgrade your organization's underlying networking, fiber cabling, wireless, firewalls, so your security system performs the way it's supposed to.

Nonprofit Security Pricing: Grant-Friendly Solutions with No Hidden Costs

We understand that even with grant funding, budget discipline matters. That's why CCi Voice offers compassionate pricing specifically for nonprofit organizations. We'll work with you to configure a solution that fits within your grant allotment and doesn't create ongoing costs that undermine your mission.

Because grant applications are scored on demonstrated need and clarity of planned improvements, it helps to come in with a clear security assessment and a realistic project scope. That's something we can help with before you ever submit an application.

How Connecticut Nonprofits Can Apply for Security Grant Funding

Applications for the fourth round of the Connecticut Nonprofit Security Grant Program open in July. Application materials and instructions are available at the DESPP grants portal:

DESPP Commissioner Ronnell A. Higgins has made clear that the agency wants to help organizations understand the program, not just collect applications. Security assessments are available through DESPP as part of the process.

On the technology side, CCi Voice is ready to help Connecticut nonprofits assess their current security posture, identify what infrastructure improvements qualify under the grant, and build a plan that maximizes the value of every dollar awarded.
